Day 3 of LFW Winter/Festive 2015 continues on. I saw on the LFW page that they are screening short films by the designers. I am really hopeful that LFW will put them on the web for free streaming.
For Day 3 I was mostly blown away by the jewelry, laughed at Vir Das's irreverent collection and realized how cool Khadi can be
Vasundhara
The 3D Maang Tika and the breast plate style disc necklace is very modern yet can still be worn with traditional pieces.
This disc necklace would work with any kind of outfit
Armaan Aiman
The whole collection with the animal motifs was very cool, however who doesn't love Jellyfish. this would be such a fun top
Antaar Agni
Presented as menswear but definitely androgynous enough to wear with leggings or denim
Pret a Funny by Vir Das
I love anything that references Govinda. Definitely want a "approved by Govinda" shirt
AM PM
Breakfast at Tiffanys meets mod boho
Graphic embroidered jacket. Modern, wearable and versatile
I must have this maxi!
Nachiket Barve
girly and tough - the feathers and the zipper make for a great balance
For us desi's from India, its Raksha bandhan this saturday, Aug 29. A day to celebrate with brothers and ones who love us like brothers in our lives, the ones who introduce us to our favorite bands, the ones who bought us our first beer, the one who beat up the bully on the playground, the who picked us up from the airport at 5am, the ones who walked us to the mandap, the one fed our firstborn the first bite of rice, the one who doesn't care whether we wear make up or not, the one who carries our bag in the mall, the one who drives us to our boyfriend's house when our car is in the shop, the one who carries our backpacks on hikes, the one who comes over to change the lightbulb, the who always has our backs, and to all those who are always there to love and cherish and nurture us unconditionally.
On Rakshabandhan, a sister ties a sacred, decorated string - Rakhi around her brother's wrist. It is symbol that she will love him for life and a sign that he will protect her. There are plenty of stories in our mythology and history about the importance of these relationships.
Rediff India has a great slide show about the history of traditions of Rakhi, and is definitely worth a read
Here is the classic Rakshabandhan bollywood song
Another of my favorite of the Bhai Behen song from Hare Krishna Hare Ram
I am so jealous of Zeenat Aman in this movie, Dev Anand is her brother and she gets to wear the most amazing pucci print maxi's and the sunglasses ::le sigh::
Have a happy, festive love filled Rakhi and as always wear fabulous fashions
This week i scrolled through hundred of photos of glamorous models strutting their stuff for the LFW. They were perfectly styled, dressed in the most beautiful clothes and of course their own beauty was of course flawless. Even when the designers and artist were polished, curated , an elevated version of their art themselves. And then I came across these last few pictures from the Anita Dongre Grassroots show and I was literally moved to tears.
I have spent all week for many different reasons questioning if I am "fashionable enough", "pretty enough", artistic enough" and this photo was just a lightbulb moment for me. Art and Artists come in many different forms. Beauty is in the most simple and profound of places and above all like Shakespeare said "in the eye of the beholder.
Dia Mirza and Anita Dongre are beautiful, strong women and artists but so are the traditional artisans in their vibrant handwoven blouses and the white cuff bracelets. While we present their art in a curated stylized form for consumers. They wear their art everyday, they live and breathe it and build their livelihoods on it and who then says thats not beautiful. Kudos to Anita Dongre for showing beauty in all is avatars
I still don't think I've put my pulse on why exactly I am so moved by these photos and I definitely have a lot to think about this weekend.
Happy weekend friends. Let the inspiration take you
